A River Runs Through It

The 5th Annual Plein Air Event in Windham, NY

All along the Hudson River communities are celebrating the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's exploration on the Hudson River.

Windham Fine Arts Gallery is no exception. On Saturday June 27th, they will feature works
of the valley's finest plein air artists with an opening reception from 3-6pm. Located at 5380 Main Street in Windham, NY.

The exhibit runs through August 9th. If you plan to attend the opening, rsvp to info@windhamfinearts.com .

There are four of my works on view. Hudson River Brilliance, Cornwall Shore Colors, Hudson River View and Storm Clouds Over the Hudson. All were painted of the Hudson River. Hudson River Brilliance is pictured and was painted from the Artist in Residence Studio from SUNY Orange Campus.

Life Goes On

Today I feel older. Not because I just celebrated another birthday, because two icons passed away. Farah Fawcett, one of Charlie's Angel inspired me to study Criminal Justice when I was young. I didn't appreciate looking for the worst in people so that career didn't last very long. However, that helped me to see that I wish to bring out the best in people.

And, Michael Jackson. Different. Genius. His music will live forever.

As I read and listen how they affected other's lives, I realize that each day we must live to the fullest, allow our music to play and to spend time with friends and family. We never know when it will be time to say goodbye.

I think today how my work affects people. I desire my paintings to take people to a higher place. To be happier. To be well. To love.

Life goes on. Be happy!

"We have an infinite number of reasons to be happy, and a serious responsibility not to be serious." (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi)

Richichi: Revolution Press Release

Followers of Linda Richichi's work have become familiar with her brilliantly colored plein air interpretations of landscapes found in the Hudson Valley, Europe, and the American Southwest. In her newest body of work, the artist also turns her focus inward to a landscape populated by mysterious figures, symbols and archetypes. This journey began when the artist noticed that the same shapes and figures were appearing again and again in her paintings. Where did they come from? What do they mean? Does this imagery emerge from the psyche or the "collective unconscious" as the late psychologist Carl Jung would suggest? Are they the "universal archtypes" that author Joseph Campbell believes are the genesis of folklore and myths in cultures around the world? “I don’t know exactly, however, I can tell you that now, when an archetype appears, I pay attention.” Linda says.

“Linda Richichi willfully surrenders to the mysterious muse within, which guides her from one world to the other.” Says artist Richard De-Pascal. “I feel like a conduit as I watch my hand paint, uncertain as to what will result”, says the artist. The result, Richichi- Revolution is a mixed media exhibit that runs from June 13th – July 5th at BAU Gallery in Beacon, NY. An opening reception will be on June 13th from 6-9pm.

Richichi’s pastel paintings are in collections internationally and are on tour with the World Tour of Contemporary Landscape Artists. Her work has been featured in the International Artist Magazine under Master Painters of the World. She is a member of the Pastel Society of America, A Signature Member of both the New York and the International Plein Air Painters and a charter member of the Landscape Artists International. For more information regarding the exhibit contact the artist directly at her studio at (845) 567-0060, view her work on the web at LindaRichichi.com or visit BAU Gallery (440) 440-7584 during open hours Sat & Sun 12-6pm from June 13- July 5, (closed on July 4). Gallery visits are available by appointment as well.

Open Studio Today

The doors open at 10am and close at 5pmish. This time you are going to be able to view on line. In a few hours I'll attempt to video the studio and some of the new work and upload it to the blog. I'm not sure how to do this so if that doesn't happen today, I'll add some photos at the very least. Bye for now and see you in a little while.

Ok, it is the end of the day and I have attempted several, no many times to publish this video however, you can see, no video and no photos. The posted rEVOLUTION photo does not look like this. It is the total opposite in color. ???? Just one of those days so I'm going with it.

Plein Air Painting 2009

Record highs were reported last week in NY. Usually the 90 degree weather waits until mid summer. The daffodils wilted along with those of us who were not ready for relief from the heat - our pools are still covered. Mary Evelyn Whitehill invited me to paint along with her at Chadwick Lake in Newburgh. There we were able to find some shade along side the view of the lake.

Mary Evelyn was one of the first artists I met when I moved back to Orange County. She is considered a local treasure. Her watercolor paintings of flowers, landscapes and historic sites of the area are collected by many. Her vitality is a joy to be around. Yesterday she was painting a small 5 x 7 which allows her to sit comfortably and paint anywhere. She wished to paint with me because she loves my color. I love her compositions and ease with watercolor. Please check out her website.

We have a winner

The Ready, Set, Go promotion is over. Jolie G. won on the second day at 2:44 pm. Jolie is one of the blog followers. Thanks to all of you who sent me an email attempting to win. I will do this again because it was wonderful to meet new friends from all over this nation. What surprised me the most was how long it took though. I thought within hours the painting would have a new home. Some of you did write,"I'm sure it is too late" but you sent it anyway. I'm wondering how many thought the same thing but didn't send it figuring they wouldn't win? How many thought, there must be a catch? I thought that when I saw an advertisement recently for a free computer.

Enjoy Jolie! I'll put the painting in the mail asap.

Here is what Jolie just wrote back....
WOW!!!! I'm so excited! I can't believe it took that long-- I'm amazed! Your work is so lovely...
It's hard to choose, but I think I like the Monhegan Island piece best... I think. Yep. (after a quick look again)"
